BABYLON FREEFLY EuroRecord 2009
ANNOUNCEMENT ! Babylon aim to bring together some of the world's top dudes in the discipline of Freefly to make the largest Freefly (head down formation) ever flown in Europe, with an attempted 50 - 60 way as a possibility - to be held at Skydive Empuriabrava, in JUNE .
The team are hard at work with their series of workshops leading up to THE MAIN EVENT where they will attempt their third European head down formation record since 2005
With the capability to go to 60 WAY in terms of aircraft and with a seriously good line up of professionals , VIP'S and well trained enthusiastic team members developed over the last two years, the level has increase and the mission has been adopted by many more flyers this time , AND inspiration from the last two record events has increased interest EACH YEAR!
So we look set to see a grand event - this will also act as a good way to get selected for the world record later this year

This event takes place every two years and since 2005 it has really become an important freefly festival. A large formation can be heard and seen from the ground. The visual impact for spectators and media is tremendous. The event will be officially IPC (International Parachuting Committee) recognised.
WITH OVER 80 flyers from 13 nations already registered for the the event, you better be fast to get involved- and if you wold like to be big and head down this summer then ...You can attend the workshops below to train your flying skills;

HAYABUSA DEFENCE 4 way formation skydiving team ...
Well what a pleasure to find myself on a this spring Tramontana (very windy) morning, taking my cafe-con-leche with none other than four young, handsome, fit -not to mention-daring, world class flyers ...
Im talking about the Belgium military HAYABUSA DEFENCE 4-way FS team members and not being one to squander the chance I quickly whip out my notebook and begin an SAS style interrogation...
Team HAYABUSA what does that mean...then? well its Japanese for the Falcon, which i'm then reliably informed by all of them speaking at once, is THE fastest bird of prey in the world, flying at speeds of 300kmph.

The graphic team logo represents both the Japanese character for the Falcon and the team's dynamic flying talents.
So we chat as we go about their training - The boys are led by their mentor & coach Luke Verstrepen and the pivotal, super experienced, cameraman Danny Jacobs. With the infamous Joey Jones on board as their training coach, they are certainly undergoing a demanding and full time regime of physical fitness, mental preparation, visualisation techniques and of course lots of jumping.
As a full time PROFESSIONAL team they are constantly "eyes-on-the-prize", working on the improvement and development of their skills. Timing and technicality is meticulously documented and studied, employing computer data in setting and maintaining their goals, honing their competitive edge, and increasing their mental and physical horizons.
The entire team seem so bonded & get on extremely well together talking and joking as one, with all members giving input into their training programme and deciding their future plans. As well as jumping together as a team in the air, they live and work together on the ground; running coaching & tunnel camps, giving back to the sport at local sessions via the federation organised events, as well as AFF jumping etc.
This is reflected in their extreme enthusiasm for the sport and the wonderful spirit and energy they posses as a group - all contributing to a pretty dynamic, full on team of very fast, focused BIRDS OF PREY...
The boys are training here at Skydive Empuriabrava regularly and this time they managed to find time for a few extra curricular activities such as; getting told off for signing their name in the freshly laid new drop zone concrete .. oops! naughty! - and becoming true football mad Catalans for a day on a visit to Barcelona to see the match between F.C. Barcelona - F.C. Sevilla, and with the BARCA BOYS TEAM winning the match by 4 goals, HAYABUSA got a chance to celebrate local style with the rest of the fans .... lots & lots of them...
Perhaps they have had a taste of the success that lies ahead for them this year with a busy schedule of events including the WORLD CUP and the CISM (military) WORLD GAMES where they have Gold in their sights and are focused on their prey ...WATCH OUT!
GO VERTICAL APRIL 09
- Due to changeable weather conditions, Sydive Empuriabrava's Easter boogie came and went with little to say but "where is the bar .. "
So there were more than just a few ecstatic faces around the DZ when the marvelous Beech 99 rolled up and declared the Go Vertical boogie open...
With Tim Porter and Martin Krissensen providing the load organising all day - weather providing - and video of the day highlights each night , it went pretty well producing a large happy crowd each day sporting fulfilled smiles , the Go Vertical has now been in operation for a few years and has its own distinct following, offering freeflyers the chance to get higher, faster, it is obviously one of the top faves in the freefly circuit.
Adding greatly to the happy jumping crowd were members of the Babylon big way workshop, taking advantage of the extra altitude for the opportunity to train in the selections for the forthcoming EURO RECORD more details on that to come...
